Amsterdam, The Netherlands – May 4, 2021 – SET Ventures is pleased to announce that Dr. Till Stenzel joins the team as a Venture Partner with a focus on the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland). Till has almost 20 years of experience working at the intersection of the energy transition and digital transformation.

Till has worked as an investor, entrepreneur, consultant and executive and has developed a deep understanding of the levers for change in the energy sector. Prior to SET Ventures, Till was a Managing Director at DTCP focusing on investments in the digital economy. Other previous engagements include corporate strategy work at E.ON, cleantech investment with Hazel Capital (now Gresham House New Energy), co-founding TuNur, the first large-scale solar projects developer in Tunisia, and policy advisory work for the UK Government and Parliament, as well as with the International Energy Agency (IEA).

Till will support SET Ventures’ mission to invest in the energy systems transition, focusing on new innovative business models, software and technology that underpin the shift to a decentralized, electrified energy world. Germany, Austria and Switzerland have been among the leaders in Europe’s shift to renewable energy and a more decentralized energy system.

“With a strong industrial base and technological know-how, as well as a favourable policy environment, the DACH countries have always been important for SET Ventures,” says Anton Arts, managing partner at SET Ventures. “Till joining the team is an important step to extend our network and increase our local presence as we scout for breakthrough innovations”.

DACH investments of SET Ventures include energy storage systems leader sonnen (Munich, acquired by Shell), energy harvesting company EnOcean (Munich), energy data platform GreenCom Networks (Munich), smart grid solutions provider depsys (Lausanne), mobile power systems supplier instagrid (Stuttgart) and flexibility trader ESFORIN (Essen).

Through his broad background, Till will contribute invaluable insights into energy market dynamics and success factors. “Software is already eating the world. Now, energy – and specifically electrification – is starting to have a similar impact on our lives,” says Till Stenzel. “I am looking forward to working with the SET Ventures team on identifying promising innovators that can scale their business model to benefit from this megatrend”.

Till holds an MSc and PhD from Imperial College, London, as well as a BSc from the London School of Economics. Till is a CFA Charterholder.
